Is the 'Isha prayer valid after having the intention for a preceding supererogatory prayer, and then performing the call to prayer (iqamah) and praying it?

The majority of scholars are of the view that separating the two prayers when combining them by performing the first prayer early (jam' al-taqdim) is not permissible except for the time it takes to perform the iqamah and a light ablution. They also hold that performing a supererogatory prayer between them invalidates the combining of prayers and renders the second prayer invalid because it was performed before its prescribed time. Therefore, the 'Isha prayer performed after a supererogatory prayer between it and the Maghrib prayer is not valid according to the majority of scholars, and it must be repeated. Although Ibn Taymiyyah holds that continuous succession (muwalat) is not a condition, it is safer and more absolving of responsibility to repeat the prayer to avoid scholarly dispute.
