What should a wife do with her husband who insults her, curses her, beats her, divorces her for the slightest reasons, and threatens to kill her and her daughter if she leaves the house, especially when she feels repressed and contemplates suicide?

It is advisable to be patient and to supplicate [to God], and to be gentle and kind to the husband, and to advise him gently at an appropriate time. If the husband’s condition does not improve after that, then there is no blame in seeking a divorce. The husband is advised to fear Allah and to repent from cursing his wife. He is also warned that if he swears an oath of divorce conditioned upon an event, and that event occurs, then the divorce takes effect.
