What is the ruling on someone who intended to fast (supererogatory or obligatory) then drank alcohol and became intoxicated before Fajr, and did not perform ghusl until after Fajr began? And is this fasting counted for him, especially make-up fasting?

If someone intended to fast at night and then consumed an intoxicant that rendered him unconscious, and if the state of intoxication continued throughout the day, his fast is invalidated, and he must make up for it. However, if he regains consciousness during the day, his fast is valid, and he is like someone who faints and then recovers. This is the preferred view according to Al-Nawawi and the Hanbali school of thought. Nevertheless, intentionally consuming intoxicants is a grave sin that necessitates repentance, but it does not negate the validity of the fast if one regains consciousness during part of the day. If the fast is invalidated, he is not obligated to wait to make it up; rather, he can make it up whenever he wishes. The warning regarding the drinker of alcohol, that his deeds will not be accepted for forty mornings, does not mean abandoning acts of worship.
