The answer

It is not permissible to disburse zakat to a poor person who is able to earn a living, based on the hadith: "There is no share in it for the rich, nor for the strong, able-bodied earner." However, if the work is not befitting him, such as householders who are not accustomed to physical labor, then they may take from zakat, because the considered earning is that which is suitable for a person's status and dignity.
