Scholars have defined the "white discharge" (al-qassah al-bayda') as a white fluid expelled by the uterus after menstruation, resembling gypsum in its whiteness. The cotton swab or cloth used to check it would be purely white, unmixed with any yellowishness or other colors. This fluid or discharge is considered a sign of purity (tahara).
