Is it permissible for a woman to look at fashion magazines to choose what complies with Islamic Sharia, and what is the ruling on her cutting her hair without imitating men or disbelieving women?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Fashion magazines that publish pictures of women naked or semi-naked contain great evils such as spreading indecency and temptation. They are a Westernization of Muslim societies and a promotion of the clothing of disbelieving women. Muslims must boycott these magazines and not buy them, as this supports evil, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "And cooperate not in sin and aggression." However, if such a magazine comes into the possession of a Muslim woman and she wishes to look at the permissible fashion within it, there is no objection, provided that the pictures do not reveal 'awrahs (private parts) that are unlawful to look at. These magazines must not be left in a place where men or adolescents can see them.
