It is permissible to name a girl "Hoor" because there is nothing in it, neither in its meaning nor in the , that would prohibit it. It is a generic name, the singular of which is "Hawra'", meaning a beautiful-eyed woman. The name "Abu al-Hawra'" was also mentioned in the kunyas (agnomens) of some narrators.
