What is the ruling on eating sponge with extreme gluttony in Ramadan, and must one make up for the days broken due to that?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Eating sponge and becoming addicted to it is unnatural and forbidden due to its harm, as Allah Almighty says: "And do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction" and "And do not kill yourselves." And as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm." If one consumes it during the daylight hours of Ramadan, it is even more prohibited and forbidden. She must repent and make up the days she missed fasting. It is recommended to consult a psychiatrist or perform a Ruqyah.
