What is the ruling on a lesson after the Friday prayer, and what is the duration of the sermon?
Allah has permitted spreading throughout the earth and seeking provision after the completion of the Friday prayer. This is a permission from Him, so whoever wishes may leave and whoever wishes may stay. There is no objection to the Imam or anyone else sitting after the prayer to teach people and answer their questions if there is a desire from the worshippers. However, transforming the sermon into a lesson and a dialogue with people has no basis in Islamic law. The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, who, when he delivered a sermon, his face would redden and his voice would rise. A lesson can be held at other times or after the Friday prayer.
