What is the ruling on one who committed grave sins, such as visiting soothsayers and attempting sorcery, then repented with sincere repentance? Is his repentance accepted, and what must he do to expiate his sins?

The door to repentance is open as long as the sun has not risen from the West or until one experiences the throes of death. One must perfect repentance from major sins such as abandoning prayer, going to sorcerers and soothsayers, and engaging in extramarital affairs. The repentant person must regret their sins, cease committing them, and resolve never to return to them, and restore any injustices to their rightful owners. They should also increase good deeds and acts of obedience, as Allah Almighty says: "Indeed, good deeds do away with ill deeds."
