Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to perform a supererogatory prostration, such as the prostration of gratitude or prostration for supplication?

The view of the majority of scholars and the four Madhhabs is that prostration (sujud) is a prayer (salat), and therefore requires ritual purity (taharah), covering the 'awrah (private parts), and facing the qiblah. Thus, it is not permissible for a menstruating woman to perform the prostration of thankfulness (sujud al-shukr). As for a mere prostration for the purpose of supplication (du'a), it is not legislated, and it is forbidden to seek closeness to Allah through a prostration that has no specific cause.
