Is it permissible for a worshiper to place a bag or a suitcase in the first row, then go to perform ablution and return to the same spot?

A person may place their bag in the first row of the mosque to reserve a spot, but this action does not grant them exclusive right to the space. If someone else precedes them to that spot, then that person has a greater right to it.
