What was the state of the universe when Adam (peace be upon him) descended to Earth?

The Holy Quran indicates that when Adam (peace be upon him) descended, the earth was prepared and suitable for dwelling and living, as stated in Allah's Almighty words: (And We said, "Go down, some of you enemies to others. And for you on earth is a dwelling place and enjoyment for a period.") This indicates that it was stable and suitable for settlement and sustenance until a known time. It appears that the earth was stable and fit for habitation then, just as it is now. As for the rest of the universe, Allah knows best its condition.
