Is the saying "The most detestable of lawful things to Allah is divorce" correct, and does it have a basis in the Qur'an or authentic Hadith?

The saying "The most detestable of lawful things to Allah is divorce" is a Prophetic tradition narrated by Abu Dawud and Al-Hakim. The Quran encourages holding onto one's wife even if the husband dislikes her. Divorce is subject to the five legal rulings: it can be obligatory, such as the divorce of the mooli (one who swears not to approach his wife) or by two arbiters; disliked when there is no need for it; permissible when there is a need, such as the wife's bad character; recommended when the wife neglects Allah's rights; and forbidden during menstruation or in a state of purity during which intercourse has occurred.
