Is it permissible to continue participating in religious competitions via text messages after their prohibition has become clear, knowing that the organizing newspaper describes them as social and scientific, not commercial?

Some scholars are of the view that it is permissible to hold competitions on beneficial scientific matters, provided that the prize comes from someone other than the competitors, or from one of them. It is not permissible to stipulate that the prize be paid by the loser, as this constitutes gambling. Accordingly, if the cost of SMS messages or newspapers is more than the normal cost of participating in the competition, then this is gambling, because the competitor is either a winner or a loser, making the competition impermissible. This is unless the newspaper is purchased for the purpose of reading it, and not solely for the competition.
