The name "Asir" is permissible but not recommended. Its meaning is the capturer, the taker, or the one who captivates the mind. The recommended names are Abdullah and Abdul Rahman, as well as any name that includes the attribution of servitude to Allah Almighty. This is because it acknowledges servitude and glorifies Allah Almighty in His Lordship. The name is not linked to what the newborn will be in the future, but the Shari'ah encouraged good names as a form of optimism. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was optimistic about them and used to change undesirable names.
