How was the topic of a woman's hijab presented in the Qur'an and Hadith?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, commanded the hijab in the Holy Quran. He forbade the display of adornment except for what is apparent thereof, in His saying: "And not display their adornment except for what is apparent thereof." He also commanded the wearing of the jilbab in His saying: "They should draw over themselves from their outer garments." And He forbade ostentatious display in His saying: "And do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance."

It is stated in the Prophetic Sunnah that a woman is 'awrah (private, to be concealed), as in the hadith: "The woman is 'awrah, so when she goes out, the devil entices her." The Sunnah also warned against those who abandon hijab and go out displaying themselves.
