What is the ruling on burying the deceased at sea?

It is permissible to bury the deceased at sea if there is fear of decomposition before reaching land. In such a case, the body is washed, shrouded, and prayed over, then cast into the sea. However, if there is no fear of decomposition, the burial should be delayed until reaching land. Currently, there are means available to preserve the body from decomposition until it reaches land.
