How is learning any new information or skill an act of worship?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a Muslim learns knowledge or acquires a skill with the intention of benefiting people and drawing closer to Allah, this becomes an act of devotion and worship for him. This is because learning communal obligations (fard al-kifayah)—which include worldly sciences and technical skills—with the aim of benefiting people carries a reward. Indeed, some scholars have even gone so far as to say that the reward for communal obligations is greater than that for individual obligations (fard al-ayn) due to their widespread benefit.
