Is a Muslim rewarded for seeking worldly knowledge such as programming and engineering?

Man is predisposed to work driven by multiple motives. If he intends to please Allah and seek His countenance through permissible actions, then he will be rewarded for them. A good intention transforms permissible acts into acts of worship, such as eating with the intention of gaining strength for acts of worship. Learning engineering, medicine, and programming are communal obligations (fard kifaya), because the welfare of people cannot be achieved without them.
