What is the reason for specifically mentioning male children when calling the prayer for the deceased, and is it legislated to stand and supplicate for steadfastness after burying a child?

It has been customary to specifically mention children by name when praying the funeral prayer, in order to alert the worshippers to supplicate specifically for them. Some jurists have deemed it desirable to dedicate a special supplication for a child because they are sinless. Ibn Qudamah said: "If the deceased is a child, then instead of seeking forgiveness for them, one should say: 'O Allah, make him a forerunner for his parents, and a treasure, a predecessor, and a reward...'" Ibn Uthaymeen was asked about a specific supplication for a deceased child, and he replied: "There is no authentic Sunnah from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, regarding this, but there are narrations whose authenticity is questionable... Some jurists have mentioned a suitable supplication, saying: 'O Allah, make him a forerunner for his parents, and a treasure, and an answered intercessor...'"

Scholars have differed regarding whether children are questioned in their graves. Some of them held that they are questioned, and their evidence is the prayer for them and the supplication to protect them from the punishment and trials of the grave, and that Allah perfects their intellects so they may know their status and be inspired with the answer. Others held that questioning is only for those who are accountable, and that a child is not questioned about what they could not have known. It appears that the matter of supplicating for children's steadfastness is broad, so there is no harm in anyone who supplicates for a child's steadfastness.
