What are the rulings concerning the waiting period (iddah) for a woman whose husband has died, and is refraining from leaving the house and covering the hair in front of sons derived from the Sunnah or the Holy Qur’an, and how can a working woman reconcile between her work and the rulings of the iddah?

A woman whose husband has died must remain in her home for the duration of the 'iddah (waiting period), which is four months and ten days if she is not pregnant, or until she delivers her child if she is pregnant. She must avoid adornment and is not permitted to leave her home except out of necessity or need, with the obligation to spend the night in her home. Her interaction with her children remains normal. A working woman or student is permitted to go to her work or studies if she is in need and cannot obtain leave, provided she does not spend the night outside her home.
