What is the ruling on copying original discs that are copyright protected, and what is the ruling on copying them for the purpose of buying or selling?

The right of authorship, production, and innovation (intellectual and artistic property) is a right reserved for its owner, both financially and intellectually. It is not permissible to infringe upon it or plagiarize it unless the owner willingly relinquishes it. Most contemporary scholars have issued fatwas to this effect, basing their rulings on the fact that this intellectual production is a benefit considered wealth, and it is not permissible to infringe upon it. Furthermore, the Sharia has forbidden the plagiarism of words or ideas and attributing them to anyone other than their originator. Also, common practice considers the right of printing and publishing to belong to their owners, and "Muslims are bound by their conditions." Therefore, it is not permissible to copy discs except with the permission of their owners if they state that copyright is reserved. However, if they do not state this, there is no objection to copying them.
