Is one who borrowed a machine and then denied it, then bought another similar one and gifted it to its owner, absolved (of sin) as repentance for his deed?

The borrowed item itself must be returned if it is still extant. It is permissible to give another machine in its place if its owner agrees to that and is content, provided he is informed that this machine is a replacement for the other.
