What is the ruling on one who confines their fasting to the month of Ramadan, without observing other fasts on other occasions, and is charity permissible in this case?

It is obligatory for a Muslim to fast only the month of Ramadan. Fasting on virtuous days such as the day of Arafah and Ashura is not obligatory unless one makes a vow, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Fasting Ramadan." He (the questioner) asked, "Is there anything else obligatory upon me?" He (the Prophet) replied, "No, unless you volunteer." Although there is no sin in not fasting these days, one should not abandon them due to their immense reward and merit, and because they complete what might be deficient in the obligatory fast, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Look, does My servant have any voluntary deeds with which to complete what was deficient in the obligatory ones?" As for giving charity to a Muslim who prays, it is permissible even if he does not observe supererogatory fasts, as there is no sin upon him for that.
