What is the ruling on pointing with the index finger when a Muslim funeral passes by, and what should be done when passing by a non-Muslim funeral?

We have not found anything indicating the legitimacy of raising the index finger when a funeral procession passes. Therefore, this act is not prescribed due to the absence of any evidence from the Sunnah (definition). As for standing for a funeral procession, it has been authentically reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded standing when a funeral procession passes and that he stood for the funeral of a Jew. However, standing for a funeral procession is abrogated according to many jurists, who cite the hadith (definition) of Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to stand for funeral processions but then sat afterwards. Accordingly, whoever encounters a funeral procession, whether it is for a Muslim or a non-believer, should not stand for it, based on the opinion of the majority of jurists. And whoever encounters the funeral of a non-believer is not permitted to attend it or participate in its procession.
