What is the ruling on Tarawih prayer, and has a Prophetic hadith been reported concerning it? Does it differ from Qiyam prayer? What is the ruling on performing it frequently during Ramadan and abandoning it afterwards? Is this considered worshipping Ramadan instead of Allah?

Tarawih prayer is a Sunnah established by the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It does not differ from Qiyam al-Layl (night prayer) in meaning. Any supererogatory prayer performed after Isha until Fajr is called Qiyam al-Layl. It has become customary to call Qiyam al-Layl in Ramadan "Tarawih," and congregational prayer is legislated for it. As for singling out Qiyam al-Layl in Ramadan and abandoning it thereafter, this is not an act of worship to other than Allah. Qiyam al-Layl is generally encouraged, and especially so in Ramadan.
