What is the virtue of the Household of the Prophet (Ahl al-Bayt) over other people, and will they intercede on the Day of Resurrection?

The family (Ahl al-Bayt) of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, are: his wives, his offspring, Banu Hashim, Banu Abd al-Muttalib, and their freedmen (mawali). Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama'ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community) have mandated loving them and upholding their rights, due to the virtues with which Allah has distinguished them. Among these virtues are that Allah has removed all impurity from them and purified them with a thorough purification, that his wives are the Mothers of the Believers, that Banu Hashim were chosen from Quraish, and that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, reminded us of his family. The Companions observed this injunction by giving them precedence in charity and safeguarding them. As for intercession (shafa'ah), it is not exclusive to Ahl al-Bayt; rather, it is general for all whose intercession Allah approves from among the righteous, the martyrs, and the scholars.
