The 'iddah (waiting period) for a woman whose husband has passed away is calculated according to lunar months, not solar months, based on the Almighty's saying: "They ask you about the new moons. Say, 'They are measurements of time for the people and for the Hajj.'" The 'iddah begins from the moment of death. So, if the death occurred on the 22nd of Rabi' al-Awwal 1446 AH, the 'iddah would end on the first day of Sha'ban of the same year.
