Divorcing a menstruating wife is forbidden, yet it is valid. Therefore, the divorce of your wife has occurred. If this was the first or second divorce, you may reconcile with her before the expiration of her iddah (waiting period). Reconciliation can be done through a verbal declaration or through sexual intercourse. You are not obligated to obey your father in divorcing your wife, and you will not be considered disobedient by disagreeing with him on this matter. You must treat your wife well and not expose her to harm from your family or others. If this requires housing her in a residence far from your family, then you must do so, for obedience to parents is only in what is good and permissible. It is the wife's right to reside in a suitable independent dwelling where she will not be exposed to harm. So, beware of oppressing your wife and treat her kindly. Nevertheless, you must still be dutiful to your father and treat him with excellence.
