Is blood money and a two-month expiatory fast obligatory for the husband who caused the death of his colleague in a car accident, which was due to street lighting, knowing that the insurance company paid the blood money? If the husband was unable to avoid the accident due to oversight, suddenness, or a mistake on his part, then he is held liable, and the blood money (diyya) is incumbent upon his aqila (male agnates), and expiation (kaffara) is required by fasting for two consecutive months. However, if he was not negligent and no mistake originated from him, then he is not liable and no expiation is due. If the competent authorities determine the mistake was on the husband's part, then what was mentioned regarding the blood money and expiation becomes incumbent upon him.
