What is meant by "my companions" in the hadiths that refer to some of them apostatizing from Islam after the death of the Prophet, may God's prayers and peace be upon him?

The commentators on the Hadith discussed the Hadith in which "my companions" (أصيحابي) is mentioned. Al-Khattabi stated that none of the Companions apostatized. Some interpreted the Hadith as referring to those who apostatized during the caliphate of Abu Bakr, while others understood it to mean the hypocrites. Still others interpreted it as referring to the disobedient and innovators. It is understood from the Hadith that the intended nation (ummah) is the 'ummah of invitation' (umma al-da'wa), not the 'ummah of response' (umma al-ijaba), or that they are those who committed major sins and innovations but died upon Islam. It is also possible that it refers to the hypocrites or those who apostatized after the death of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. And everyone who innovates in religion is among those driven away from the Pool, such as the Khawarij, the Rawafidh, and the oppressors who commit major sins.
