What is the correct name for Madinah Al-Munawwarah, "Yathrib" or "Syria"? And did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid the use of the name "Yathrib"?

"Yathrib" is the name of Medina in the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, changed its name to "Al-Madinah" or "Taybah" or "Tabah" after the Hijra. It is disliked to call it "Yathrib" because this name is derived from "al-tharb," which means corruption, and it has been narrated in a hadith that calling it "Yathrib" is reprehensible. As for naming a village in Syria or an area in Iraq "Yathrib," it is simply a name for those particular regions.
