What is the ruling on being named with the names: Maria or Mariyah (the name of the Messenger’s wife, peace and blessings be upon him), and Ritan or Rattane, and Talin? And do their meanings carry good names?

The name Mariyah (مارية) is permissible and well-known. It may sometimes be mentioned rarely as "Maria" (ماريا) without the ta' marbuta. As for Reetan (ريتان), Ratan (رتان), and Taleen (تالين), no meaning has been found for them in dictionaries, and they might be foreign names, although Taleen might have a meaning in the Arabic language. A Muslim should not use foreign names unless their meaning is known and it is confirmed that they do not carry a bad meaning or a slogan that contradicts religion and morals.
