The answer

It is permissible for the husband to refuse to divorce his wife if she requests a divorce without a valid reason, unless she waives some of her rights, and he would not be unjust to her by doing so. If the husband is unable to procreate, the wife may request a divorce, but the husband is not obliged to grant it, and he may refuse until she relinquishes some of her rights to him. Khul' (divorce by mutual consent) is also permissible during menstruation. If the husband travels and is absent from his wife for more than six months without a valid excuse, she may request a separation.
