What is the ruling on trimming the ends of thick, long eyebrow hair, and is that considered plucking (namṣ), and what is the permissible limit for trimming?

Scholars differ regarding the meaning of "al-namṣ" (plucking of eyebrows). Some have gone to the extent of prohibiting both plucking and trimming, and this is the fatwa adopted on this website. Trimming is not permissible unless there is a disfigurement according to custom. Others have gone to the extent of prohibiting only plucking, while permitting trimming, shaping, and shaving, and this is the view of the Hanbalis. While the latter is easier, the first opinion is more exculpatory. For those who adopt the second view, it is preferable to limit oneself to trimming only the excess eyebrow hair beyond the usual length.
