Is it permissible to pay an additional amount to the airline company to recover the ticket price upon cancellation of travel?

There is no objection to paying an additional sum for the ticket price to obtain extra features, such as refunding the ticket or changing the travel date without fees. This is because incidental gharar (uncertainty) is overlooked. Furthermore, these features are considered either a promise or a stipulation of benefit for the buyer, both of which are permissible.

However, this feature must not be offered through a contract independent of the ticket purchase, because then the gharar would be in the primary subject of the contract, which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade.

This issue is similar to the warranty added to cars and appliances; it is permissible to increase the price of the commodity for the warranty as an ancillary part of it, but it is not permissible to purchase or extend this warranty through a separate contract.
