Is it permissible, Islamically, to name someone Ghiyath?
It is permissible to be named "Ghiyath" (Helper/Succorer), because absolute succor is exclusive to Allah alone. As for succor in the right of creation, it is according to their ability. It is not known that any of the predecessors (Salaf) objected to being named with this name, and some of the Salaf were indeed named with it. Also, the name "Mughith" (Helper/Succorer) was mentioned in the Sunnah, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not change it. All of this indicates the permissibility of being named with it.
