What is to be done concerning the blood money (diyah) for a child who died as a result of medical malpractice, where the diyah has not been paid because the family's address is unknown?

Every possible effort must be made to reach the heirs of the child who died as a result of medical error and for whom blood money (diyya) was decreed, even if their address is not found in the medical file. If the heirs cannot be found after exhausting all efforts, the blood money should be deposited in the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal), if it is organized, or spent on general Muslim welfare. It is permissible to give a portion of it to the poor and needy. This does not waive the right of the heirs to claim it whenever they appear.
