Our father left us when we were young, so should we disobey him?

Allah has made it obligatory to honor one's parents and be kind to them, linking this to His Oneness, as stated in the verses: "Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good" (An-Nisa: 36), and "Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and to parents, do good" (Al-Isra: 23), and "And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents" (Al-Ahqaf: 15). The hadiths have also emphasized this, such as: "The pleasure of the Lord is in the pleasure of the parent," and "The parent is the middle gate of Paradise." One must honor and be kind to their parents even if they have fallen short in their duties towards their children, for the mere fact that they were the cause of the child's existence is sufficient. Therefore, it is not permissible to disobey the father in what is good, even if he neglected his children in their youth.
