What is the ruling on someone who owes make-up days from Ramadan of the year before last and doubts whether he has made them up? Should he make them up again and feed a poor person for each day, and what is the amount of feeding, and is it permissible to give it to one poor person?

If you doubt whether you have made up for the Ramadan fasts you owe, you must make them up. You are not required to pay an expiation for delaying the make-up fasts unless you delayed them intentionally, not out of ignorance or forgetfulness.

For those who owe expiations, it is permissible to give them to several needy persons or to one needy person. The amount of expiation is one mudd of food (approximately 750 grams), but it is safer to give approximately one and a half kilograms. It should be given from the staple food of the land.
