What is the position of a discerning student of knowledge who is skilled in critical analysis, but is unaware of the hadith, regarding hadiths that scholars have differed upon in terms of authentication or weakening?

We advise students of knowledge to study the sciences of Hadith and to utilize the rulings of the Hadith scholars, as the means to access them are available. If there is a difference of opinion regarding the authentication (taṣḥīḥ) or weakening (taḍʿīf) of a Hadith, one should examine whether the Hadith conforms to the principles of Fiqh, the [Qur’anic] texts, and the practice of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. What aligns with these should be given precedence. Students must also accompany people of knowledge to ask them questions and to study under them. It is not permissible for a beginner to rely on himself before mastering [the knowledge] at the hands of the shaykhs.
