How sound is the hadith: "The most fearful thing I fear for my Ummah is ascribing partners to Allah. I do not say that they will worship the sun, nor the moon, nor idols, but rather deeds for other than Allah, and hidden desires"?

The Hadith: "Indeed, the most I fear for my nation is associating partners with Allah. I am not saying they will worship the sun, or the moon, or an idol, but rather deeds done for other than Allah, and hidden desires," has a weak chain of narration. Scholars have deemed it weak due to Al-Hasan ibn Dhakwan and the presence of another weakness in the narrators before him, as well as doubt regarding the Hadith's continuity. The follow-up by Abd al-Wahid ibn Zayd does not strengthen it, as he is extremely weak and his narrations are abandoned. Other proofs suffice regarding the prohibition of showing off (riya'), such as Allah's saying: (So whoever hopes for the meeting with his Lord, let him do righteous work and not associate anyone with the worship of his Lord), and the Hadith: "Indeed, the most I fear for you is the minor shirk." They asked, "And what is the minor shirk, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Riya' (showing off)."
