What is the authenticity of the circulating narrations that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to perfume golden coins with musk before giving them to the poor, and that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give sugar in charity out of love for it and in application of Allah's saying: "You will not attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love"?

No trace has been found from Umar or Aisha regarding the verse. However, a narration from Ibn Umar was found in Ibn al-Mundhir's stating that he used to buy sugar and give it in charity, justifying this by Allah's saying: "You will not attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love," and that sugar was among the things he loved.
