1. Intention to issue two divorces: In this case, two divorces are binding on him. If one divorce preceded these, then his wife is unlawful for him until she marries another husband in a valid marriage.

2. Intention to emphasize: In this case, only one divorce is binding on him, and he can take her back before her waiting period (iddah) is complete. The word "animal" does not affect the meaning of emphasis, as it is a slight interjection.

There is no disagreement regarding the validity of divorcing a pregnant woman. The majority of scholars hold that divorcing a non-pregnant woman during a period of purity in which intercourse occurred is valid, and this is the relied-upon opinion. It is worth noting that the divorce of an angry person does not take effect if their anger is so severe that they are unaware of what they are saying.
