Is it permissible to attend a wedding party where there is music, while playing the Qur’an or Islamic songs through headphones to avoid hearing it?

It is not permissible to accept an invitation where one knows there will be a prohibited act, such as music. It is not sufficient to wear earplugs to avoid hearing it; rather, one must not attend. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, turned his mount away and distanced himself from a place upon hearing the sound of a shepherd's flute. It is forbidden for someone who knows about the prohibited act beforehand and cannot change it to attend. This is the view of the majority of jurists. However, if one attends and then learns of the prohibited act, it is obligatory to denounce it and depart if the prohibited act is not removed. This is the ruling given in fatwas.
