Abu Talib died as a disbeliever. He had taken care of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, after the death of his grandfather, when the Prophet was eight years old. Abu Talib loved him dearly and took him on a trade journey to Shaam. Abu Talib refused to hand over the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to Quraysh, and he called upon Banu Hashim and Banu Al-Muttalib to protect him. They responded to his call, so Quraysh boycotted Banu Hashim for three years in their valley. Abu Talib passed away six months after they emerged from the valley.
