What is the ruling on someone who marries again while barely able to provide for the necessities of his first family, yet insists that provision is from Allah, and sometimes forces his wives to live together?

Polygyny is one of the merits of Islamic Sharia, due to the benefits, wisdoms, and interests it entails. It is absolutely permissible, whether the second wife is a virgin or previously married, young or old. There is no objection to a man choosing a beautiful virgin who possesses good character and religious devotion.

The permissibility of polygyny is restricted by two conditions: the ability to be just and the ability to provide financial support. Whoever is unable to do so should content himself with one wife.

It is the wife's right that her husband provides her with an independent home. He is not permitted to house her with another wife in the same home unless both of them consent.
