Is this supplication permissible: "O Allah, You are Capable and I am not, and You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen and the All-Powerful. O Allah, if You know that there is good in so-and-so, then marry him to me and decree him for me; and if there is good for me in someone else for my religion, my worldly life, and my Hereafter, then decree him for me," or does it fall under giving Allah Almighty a choice?

There is no harm in supplicating with words that convey the meaning of thealat-Istikharah (prayer for guidance), such as saying: "O Allah, if goodness lies in someone other than this person, then divert him from me and ordain for me goodness in someone else." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to teach his companions to perform Istikharah in all matters just as he taught them a Surah from the Qur'an, by praying two rak'ahs and then reciting the well-known Istikharah supplication.
