Is a person sinful for attending and listening to the communal recitation of the Quran at a mourning gathering despite knowing it is an innovation? And was it obligatory for him to object, even if he feared discord and did not possess sufficient evidence?

It is not permissible for the family of the deceased to prepare food and invite people to it, as this is forbidden and considered part of wailing (niyāḥah). Furthermore, reading the Qur’an in congregation with one voice is an innovation (bidʿah). Therefore, one should not attend these gatherings and feasts, and if present, one must clarify that this act is unlawful. If they do not respond, one should leave, for whoever sees a reprehensible act should change it.
